Descripción completa

Höga Kusten has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, seascapes and granite cliffs.

Join on a four-day adventure showcasing the essence of Swedish outdoor exploration. Prepare for unforgettable hiking experiences amidst some of Sweden’s most awe-inspiring scenery. Even without scaling towering peaks, this region promises unparalleled natural beauty, ranging from sandy beaches and dense pine forests to mesmerizing canyons crafted from Nordingrå granite. Rich in biodiversity, the area is home to a plethora of wildlife, including roe deer, hares, squirrels, foxes, badgers, martens, ermines, minks, and the iconic moose. With luck, you may witness one of the world’s seven natural wonders—the enchanting Borealis, also known as the northern lights.

This excursion caters to both novice and seasoned hikers, requiring only a normal level of fitness to participate. You need not be an athlete to join in on this adventure.

Travel itinerary – Day 1
Our adventure starts as we meet in Stockholm to outfit everyone with top-quality camping gear. We get to know each other before boarding the night train, setting off northward toward the stunning High Coast of Sweden (Höga Kusten). The overnight journey in sleeper cabins allows us to rest and recharge, ensuring we’re ready for the exciting days ahead.

Travel itinerary – Day 2
We arrive early in the morning and catch a short bus ride to the entrance of Skuleskogen National Park (part of Höga Kusten), where our hiking expedition begins. As we make our way through the lush, scenic forests, your experienced guide shares fascinating insights about the park’s natural beauty and unique highlights. By late afternoon, we reach the coast, where we set up camp for the night. Dinner is prepared over an open fire, as we settle in and share stories around the campfire. If we’re lucky, we may even catch a glimpse of the northern lights. For those who want to keep exploring, there’s an option for a coastal hike without the heavy backpack before night falls.

Travel itinerary – Day 3
After a well-deserved rest, we start the day with a relaxed breakfast and coffee, soaking in the beautiful coastal scenery. Our hike continues deeper into Skuleskogen National Park (part of Höga Kusten), where we aim to reach the iconic Slåttdalsskrevan, a dramatic gorge carved through the landscape. In the late afternoon, we set up our second forest campsite. After a rewarding day of exploration, we enjoy a hearty dinner, followed by an early night’s sleep, as we prepare for the final leg of our journey.

Travel itinerary – Day 4
We rise early to begin our hike back to the bus station, retracing our steps through the forest. After a brief bus ride, we board the daytime train back to Stockholm. Unlike the outbound journey, this train ride offers stunning views of the Swedish countryside, giving us a chance to reflect on the adventure and the beauty we’ve experienced during the past few days. We arrive back in Stockholm with memories of a truly unforgettable hiking adventure.

Prepare for your 4-day Höga Kusten hiking and camping tour with clothing suitable for all seasons. Dressing in layers is key: start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add an insulating mid-layer, and top it off with a waterproof outer layer. Quick-drying pants, preferably convertible, and a lightweight waterproof jacket are essential. For colder weather, pack thermal underwear, a fleece sweater, a warm hat, gloves, and a scarf. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support and extra warm socks are crucial. For sunny days, include a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. We always ensure that everyone gets the best possible experience and provide extra support if needed. Please keep in mind, we walk partly off-trail, which adds some additional challenges. During our hiking tour in Höga Kusten, you have the opportunity to encounter a variety of wildlife native to the area. Keep in mind that our hiking tour is primarily a walk through nature, and any animal spotting is an additional bonus, not guaranteed. Due to the dense forest, any wildlife sighting requires a bit of luck. However, you might keep an eye out for:

  • Deer: These graceful animals can sometimes be spotted in forested areas, though sightings are rare.
  • Birds: Tyresta National Park is home to a wide variety of bird species, including woodpeckers, owls, and many songbirds.
  • Hares: These shy creatures can sometimes be seen darting through the underbrush.
  • Moose: While moose are more commonly found in open fields, you would need to be extremely lucky to see one in the forest.
  • Badgers: These nocturnal animals are known for their distinctive black and white striped faces.
  • Roe Deer: Smaller than the common deer, these animals are sometimes sighted in the park.
  • Wild Boars: Occasionally, these animals can be seen foraging in the forest.
  • Squirrels: Red and gray squirrels are abundant and can often be seen scurrying up trees.

  • Respect Nature: Do not disturb wildlife or damage vegetation. Stick to marked trails and avoid trampling on sensitive areas.
  • Leave No Trace: Take all your litter with you and leave the area as you found it. This helps preserve the natural beauty for others to enjoy.
  • Respect Private Property: You can pass through private land, but avoid walking too close to homes and respect privacy. Always close gates behind you.
