Come along for an overnight hiking trip outside of Stockholm. From start to finish of the tour, you will feel like you’re far away from Scandinavia’s largest city. You will get the full hiking experience of cooking in the wild and sleeping out in nature. The Tyresta National Park is the biggest ancient forest in southern Sweden, with very old trees and lots of wildlife, including deer, boars, moose, and the rare lynx. Although these animals can be hard to see because the forest is so thick, there are plenty of birds to spot, especially owls and woodpeckers.
People have been living in this area since ancient times. Vikings once called this place home, attracted by the natural landscapes formed by the ice ages. It’s a great chance to enjoy nature and learn some history.
We guide you through the dense ancient forest and provide all necessary hiking equipment. Please note, you will have to carry your own equipment (all equipment will be provided).
The tour is suitable for everyone with a normal fitness level (approx. 35km distance), you don’t need to be an athlete.
Travel Itinerary – Day 1
Our adventure begins with a gear check and a detailed briefing about the journey ahead. Staying true to our commitment to sustainability, we’ll take a short ride on public transportation to the trailhead. From here, we embark on a 21 km hike through the scenic outskirts of Stockholm, where rural landscapes, picturesque farmlands, and ancient forests blend seamlessly with the eastern coastline. As we walk, your guide will share fascinating insights about the local environment and history. By late afternoon, we transition from the nature reserve into the southern part of Tyresta National Park, a peaceful haven where we’ll set up camp for the night. After settling in, we’ll gather around for a well-earned meal cooked over the campfire. As the evening winds down, there will be time for storytelling and relaxing in nature, letting the sounds of the forest lull you into a restful sleep after a rewarding day of exploration.
Travel Itinerary – Day 2
Wake up to the stillness of the early morning in Tyresta National Park, a rare moment before other visitors arrive. After enjoying a freshly prepared breakfast, we’ll continue our journey, this time trekking 13 km through the dense northern forests of the park. Our route will lead us past serene lakes, perfect for capturing stunning photos or simply taking a moment to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. Along the way, your guide will point out notable landmarks and wildlife as we explore the park’s hidden gems. We plan to finish our hike by midday, giving you plenty of time to return to the city and check into your accommodation, where you can unwind and enjoy lunch after this memorable two-day adventure.
When planning your stockholm adventure, it’s important to be prepared for varying weather conditions throughout the year. Each season brings its own unique climate and characteristics, influencing the hiking experience in different ways.
Spring
Temperatures typically range from 5°C to 15°C. The weather can be quite variable, with sunny days, occasional rain showers, and cooler mornings and evenings. Be prepared for the occasional rainy days, which can make the atmosphere moody but also bring out the vibrant colours of nature.
Summer
This time of the year offers the warmest weather, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C. Expect longer days with plenty of sunshine, perfect for extended hikes. Occasional rain showers are possible. Despite the rain, the overall conditions are pleasant and ideal for hiking.
Autumn
Already cooler temperatures, usually between 5°C and 15°C. The weather can be quite variable, with a mix of sunny, rainy, and windy days. The landscape is beautifully coloured with autumn foliage, making it a picturesque time for hiking. Rainy days can add a charm to the surroundings, but can also make trails slippery with fallen leaves and mud.
Winter
The temperatures in Stockholm range from -10°C to 5°C. Expect colder, shorter days with potential snowfall. The trails can be icy or covered with snow, and rainy days can make them slippery. Winter hiking offers a serene and unique experience, with crisp air and stunning snowy landscapes.
Prepare for your stockholm adventure with clothing for all seasons. Dress in layers: a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a waterproof outer layer. Quick-drying pants, preferably convertible, and a lightweight waterproof jacket are essential.
For colder weather, bring thermal underwear, a fleece sweater, a warm hat, gloves, and a scarf. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support and extra warm socks are best. For sunny days, pack a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Also, carry a small backpack for essentials, a rain cover, and trekking poles for stability.
With the right gear, you’ll be ready for any weather and enjoy your Stockholm hiking experience.
We have no dedicated storage space for larger luggage (suitcases e.g. ). However, you will find many dedicated luggage box providers in Stockholm.
