Full description

Experience Swedish landscapes on a calming sunset hike through Tyresta National Park. This tour starts late in the afternoon/evening (depending on the season). We meet in central Stockholm and from here we take a short bus ride to Tyresta National Park. This hike takes you through ancient forests, high granite cliffs, and peaceful lakes. Our expert outdoor guide leads the way and shows you the best hiking Stockholm has to offer. Imagine an evening adventure as the sun sets, far away from the busy city life. Maybe even try spotting wildlife like deer, wild boars, and hares along the way. Nature is full of surprises, so you never know what you might see! While we can’t guarantee animal sightings, our guide will share facts about the natural environment and Swedish culture (this is not a wildlife safari).

As the setting sun falls slowly in, the forest turns mysterious, and we’ll treat you to a traditional Swedish picnic in a beautiful, quiet spot. You’ll also have the opportunity to jump into the lake for a swim if you want to. From here, we make our way back through the forest before we drop you off again in town. Join us for this special sunset adventure and discover the best hiking Stockholm has to offer!

Answers to common questions

When planning your sunset hiking Stockholm tour, it’s important to be prepared for varying weather conditions throughout the year. Each season brings its own unique climate and characteristics, influencing the hiking experience in different ways.

Spring
Temperatures typically range from 5°C to 15°C. The weather can be quite variable, with sunny days, occasional rain showers, and cooler mornings and evenings. Be prepared for the occasional rainy days, which can make the atmosphere moody but also bring out the vibrant colours of nature.

Summer
This time of the year offers the warmest weather, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C. Expect longer days with plenty of sunshine, perfect for extended hikes. Occasional rain showers are possible. Despite the rain, the overall conditions are pleasant and ideal for hiking.

Autumn
Already cooler temperatures, usually between 5°C and 15°C. The weather can be quite variable, with a mix of sunny, rainy, and windy days. The landscape is beautifully coloured with autumn foliage, making it a picturesque time for hiking. Rainy days can add a charm to the surroundings, but can also make trails slippery with fallen leaves and mud.

Winter
The temperatures in Stockholm range from -10°C to 5°C. Expect colder, shorter days with potential snowfall. The trails can be icy or covered with snow, and rainy days can make them slippery. Winter hiking offers a serene and unique experience, with crisp air and stunning snowy landscapes.

Prepare for your Tyresta National Park hiking tour with clothing for all seasons. Dress in layers: a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a waterproof outer layer. Quick-drying pants, preferably convertible, and a lightweight waterproof jacket are essential.

For colder weather, bring thermal underwear, a fleece sweater, a warm hat, gloves, and a scarf. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support and extra warm socks are best. For sunny days, pack a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Also, carry a small backpack for essentials, a rain cover, and trekking poles for stability.

With the right gear, you’ll be ready for any weather and enjoy your Stockholm hiking experience.

We have no dedicated storage space for larger luggage (suitcases e.g. ). However, you will find many dedicated luggage box providers in Stockholm.

The Tyresta National Park hiking tour takes you directly into the heart of nature, providing a truly immersive experience. As such, there are no facilities along the way. If you need to use the toilet, you’ll have to do so in nature. Please come prepared for this to ensure you can enjoy your tour comfortably.

Our Tyresta National Park hiking tour is a light to medium-light physical activity. Most of our customers have no trouble with the required fitness, as we maintain a relaxed pace. We always ensure that everyone gets the best possible experience and provide extra support if needed. Please keep in mind, that we walk partly off-trail, which adds some additional challenges.

You just need to be in normal health to participate. However, for some customers, it can be a demanding exercise that they may feel in their legs and feet after the activity.

During our hiking tour in Tyresta National Park, you have the opportunity to encounter a variety of wildlife native to the Stockholm area. Keep in mind that our hiking tour is primarily a walk through nature, and any animal spotting is an additional bonus, not guaranteed. Due to the dense forest, any wildlife sighting requires a bit of luck. However, you might keep an eye out for:

  • Deer: These graceful animals can sometimes be spotted in forested areas, though sightings are rare.
  • Birds: Tyresta National Park is home to a wide variety of bird species, including woodpeckers, owls, and many songbirds.
  • Hares: These shy creatures can sometimes be seen darting through the underbrush.
  • Moose: While moose are more commonly found in open fields, you would need to be extremely lucky to see one in the forest.
  • Badgers: These nocturnal animals are known for their distinctive black and white striped faces.
  • Roe Deer: Smaller than the common deer, these animals are sometimes sighted in the park.
  • Wild Boars: Occasionally, these animals can be seen foraging in the forest.
  • Squirrels: Red and grey squirrels are abundant and can often be seen scurrying up trees.

Remember to maintain a respectful distance from all wildlife and avoid disturbing their natural habitat. Our guides will help you identify different species and share interesting facts about the local fauna.

Sweden’s unique “Right to Roam” (Allemansrätten) allows everyone to enjoy nature freely, with certain responsibilities. This right means you can hike, camp, and explore the outdoors without needing special permission, as long as you respect the environment and landowners.

Key principles of the Right to Roam include:

  • Respect Nature: Do not disturb wildlife or damage vegetation. Stick to marked trails and avoid trampling on sensitive areas.
  • Leave No Trace: Take all your litter with you and leave the area as you found it. This helps preserve the natural beauty for others to enjoy.
  • Respect Private Property: You can pass through private land, but avoid walking too close to homes and respect privacy. Always close gates behind you.

The Right to Roam is a cherished part of Swedish culture, allowing everyone to experience and enjoy the beauty of nature responsibly. During our hiking tour, we’ll embrace these principles to ensure a safe and respectful adventure in the Tyresta National Park.

Tyresta National Park, established in 1993, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and tranquility with its diverse landscapes, including dense forests, pristine lakes, and rocky outcrops. Home to wildlife such as deer, foxes, and numerous bird species, the park adds excitement to every hike. Well-maintained trails cater to all levels, from leisurely walks to challenging treks. Located close to Stockholm, Tyresta National Park is easily accessible for a quick escape into nature, providing a peaceful retreat despite its proximity to the city. The sunsets in Tyresta are magical, casting a golden glow over the landscape. Exploring Tyresta National Park allows you to connect with nature and experience the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
