Answers to common questions

When planning your hiking tour through Nacka Nature Reserve, it’s important to be prepared for varying weather conditions throughout the year. Each season brings its own unique climate and characteristics, influencing the hiking experience in different ways.

Spring
Temperatures typically range from 5°C to 15°C. The weather can be quite variable, with sunny days, occasional rain showers, and cooler mornings and evenings. Be prepared for the occasional rainy days, which can make the atmosphere moody but also bring out the vibrant colors of nature.

Summer
This time of the year offers the warmest weather, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C. Expect longer days with plenty of sunshine, perfect for extended hikes. Occasional rain showers are possible. Despite the rain, the overall conditions are pleasant and ideal for hiking.

Autumn
Already cooler temperatures, usually between 5°C and 15°C. The weather can be quite variable, with a mix of sunny, rainy, and windy days. The landscape is beautifully colored with autumn foliage, making it a picturesque time for hiking. Rainy days can add a charm to the surroundings, but can also make trails slippery with fallen leaves and mud.

Winter
The temperatures in Stockholm range from -10°C to 5°C. Expect colder, shorter days with potential snowfall. The trails can be icy or covered with snow, and rainy days can make the slippery. Winter hiking offers a serene and unique experience, with crisp air and stunning snowy landscapes.

Prepare for your Nacka Nature Reserve with clothing for all seasons. Dress in layers: a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a waterproof outer layer. Quick-drying pants, preferably convertible, and a lightweight waterproof jacket are essential. For colder weather, bring thermal underwear, a fleece sweater, a warm hat, gloves, and a scarf. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support and extra warm socks are best. For sunny days, pack a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Also, carry a small backpack for essentials, a rain cover, and trekking poles for stability.

With the right gear, you’ll be ready for any weather and enjoy your Stockholm hiking experience.

We have no dedicated storage space for larger luggage (suitcases e.g. ). However, you can take smaller backpacks (daypacks) directly with you into the kayak (dry compartment). Otherwise, we recommend using one of the dedicated luggage box providers in Stockholm.

Any luggage that you choose to leave at the kayak station is not our responsibility.

Our Nacka Nature Reserve hike takes you directly into the heart of nature, providing a truly immersive experience. As such, there are no facilities along the way. If you need to use the toilet, you’ll have to do so in nature. Please come prepared for this to ensure you can enjoy your tour comfortably.

The Nacka Nature Reserve hike is a light to medium-light physical activity. Most of our customers have no trouble with the required fitness, as we maintain a relaxed pace. We always ensure that everyone gets the best possible experience and provide extra support if needed. Please keep in mind, we walk partly off-trail, which adds some additional challenge. When participating in our hiking near Stockholm, you just need to be in normal health. However, for some customers, it can be a demanding exercise that they may feel in their legs and feet after the activity.

During your hiking tour in the Nacka Nature Reserve, you have the opportunity to encounter a variety of wildlife native to the Stockholm area. Keep in mind that our hiking tour is primarily a walk through nature, and any animal spotting is an additional bonus, not guaranteed. However, we commonly see deer and other animals. Keep an eye out for:

  • Deer: These graceful animals are often spotted in forested areas.
  • Birds: Nacka Nature Reserve is home to a wide variety of bird species, including woodpeckers, owls, and many songbirds.
  • Hares: These shy creatures can sometimes be seen darting through the underbrush.
  • Moose: While moose are more commonly found in open fields, you would need to be extremely lucky to see one in the forest.
  • Badgers: These nocturnal animals are known for their distinctive black and white striped faces.
  • Roe Deer: Smaller than the common deer, these animals are also a frequent sight in the reserve.
  • Wild Boars: Occasionally, these animals can be seen foraging in the forest.
  • Squirrels: Red and grey squirrels are abundant and can often be seen scurrying up trees.

Remember to maintain a respectful distance from all wildlife and avoid disturbing their natural habitat. Our guides will help you identify different species and share interesting facts about the local fauna.

Sweden’s unique “Right to Roam” (Allemansrätten) allows everyone to enjoy nature freely, with certain responsibilities. This right means you can hike, camp, and explore the outdoors without needing special permission, as long as you respect the environment and landowners. Key principles of the Right to Roam include:

  • Respect Nature: Do not disturb wildlife or damage vegetation. Stick to marked trails and avoid trampling on sensitive areas.
  • Leave No Trace: Take all your litter with you and leave the area as you found it. This helps preserve the natural beauty for others to enjoy.
  • Respect Private Property: You can pass through private land, but avoid walking too close to homes and respect privacy. Always close gates behind you.

The Right to Roam is a cherished part of Swedish culture, allowing everyone to experience and enjoy the beauty of nature responsibly. During our hiking tour, we’ll embrace these principles to ensure a safe and respectful adventure in the Nacka Nature Reserve.
